Announcing Project Characterization

A good blog post is hard to find. Literally. Not everyone’s back posts are particularly easy to search, and there are a LOT of archives out there; I can think, off the top of my head, of several dozen different blogs, most of which have been going for at least four months, which I would consider strong references for my kind of work.

This got me to thinking. Many people consider the creation of secondary characters to be one of their greatest difficulties, both on the writing side and on the gaming side. I’m already making a point of writing enough about secondary characters to fill this month (I hope), but what’s the fun of just having one person’s opinion when you can have several dozen?

So here’s the deal: I’m going to try to hunt down articles on the proper creation and maintenance of secondary characters. Possibly characterization as a whole, if I’m feeling particularly ambitious; most of the principles apply to both. As I do, I’m going to start compiling them, creating lists of related topics, each with a summary and review, and put them out weekly.

But to do this, I want your help, bloggers of the world. You know your archives better than I do; if you’ve written about these characters, you can find them more quickly than I. Leave a comment here with the links; consider this one very big, very retroactive blog carnival. I’ll collect them up, sort them as best I can, post weekly, and make sure the lists are easily accessible. Two, three clicks, and the best of the Internet’s resources on characterization will be in your hands.

Who’s with me?
